At first I thought they were a replacement for Microsoft Office with the bonus of being able to access them online from anywhere. I thought Google Docs was an online version of Word, Google Slides was an online version of PowerPoint and Google Sheets an online version of Excel. I was wrong - Google apps are ALIVE! Following Dr. Ruben Puentudura's SAMR model for integrating technology into the classroom (right) Google Apps were simply a substitution for me. Since using the Google apps with students and colleagues I have realised how much more they offer. The functionality of Google apps allows tasks to be transformed to the point of redefinition. In the staff workroom this week a colleague told me he was sad to be deleting his archived folders from the last 20 years of his teaching career, but he had to because they are taking up too much space on the school drive. I immediately said "Why aren't you using Google Drive?". Our school is registered for Google for Education (absolutely free), so every teacher has access to the full GSuite. This includes unlimited storage space on Google Drive. That's right - unlimited!
